BETSY HERSKIND

Betsy Herskind began her dance training in grade school in Chicago and with Edna McRae. She danced professionally with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Lyric Opera Ballet, Illinois Ballet, Melody Top Theater, and in Ruth Page's Nutcracker. Herskind owned and operated a dance school for over 30 years and continues to teach ballet in Chicago and Evanston.

September 13, 2018: Betsy Herskind talks about her lifelong love of dancing, from her early training in grade school to joining the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as a teenager, to operating her own studio. She recalls specific lessons she learned from teachers and performances she danced in as a professional. Still teaching several ballet classes a week, Betsy also discussed her pedagogy at length.
