Betsy Herskind began her dance training in grade school in Chicago and with Edna McRae. She danced professionally with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Lyric Opera Ballet, Illinois Ballet, Melody Top Theater, and in Ruth Page's Nutcracker. Herskind owned and operated a dance school for over 30 years and continues to teach ballet in Chicago and Evanston.

She recalls specific lessons she learned from teachers and performances she danced in as a professional. Still teaching several ballet classes a week, Betsy also discussed her pedagogy at length.
