LACKRITZ SISTERS
Mary Kay Lackritz Gray is a Chicago native and art historian. In her childhood, Lackritz attended Mabel Katherine Pearse’s Modern Dance Camp in Door County, Wisconsin. After marrying Richard Gray, the two became avid supporters of the arts. In 2013, the University of Chicago opened the Richard and Mary L. Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry as an honor to their contribution to the art community in Chicago.

Susan Lackritz Kaplan was a student of The Mabel Katherine Pearse Modern Dance Camp and currently resides in California.

October 2, 2017: Sisters Mary Kay Lackritz Gray and Susan Lackritz Kaplan, joined by family friend Susan Rossen, recall their experiences as young girls at the Mabel Katherine Pearse Modern Dance Camp on Washington Island. They remember the classes, activities, and productions they performed and describe the camp itself and traveling there each summer. Both sisters also reflect on the lifelong benefits of their dance training.
