LAR LUBOVITCH

"[Dance] was a fun, natural thing that I was drawn to do."

Growing up on Maxwell Street

Chicago native Lar Lubovitch grew up on Maxwell Street and was a student of the School of the Art Institute Chicago before starting the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in New York in 1968. His choreographic work has been performed by the American Ballet Theatre, White Oak Dance Project, Paris Opera Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, and more. Lubovitch also co-founded the Chicago Dancing Festival in 2007, the same year he was awarded “Chicagoan of the Year” by the Chicago Tribune.
